If more than 6 eligible questions are submitted for a call:

  • Priority will be given to the first 6
  • Remaining questions may be carried over to the following week or answered within the forum

Posting in the Forum does not guarantee a live call response where requirements have not been met.

Institute of Health – Student Forum Guide

Purpose of the Forum

The Institute of Health Forum is a structured learning space designed to support your understanding, application and professional development throughout your studies.

It exists to:

  • Support implementation of concepts taught in the curriculum
  • Encourage independent thinking and problem solving
  • Foster collaborative discussion between students and facilitators
  • Create shared learning through peer contribution and discussion
  • Create a growing resource library reflecting real questions and applied reasoning

The Forum is not an assessment tool.

It is a learning environment where questions are welcomed and curiosity is encouraged.

If something is unclear, that uncertainty is part of the learning process. The Forum exists to support your understanding through facilitator guidance, peer discussion and practical application.

How the Forum Fits Into Your Learning

The Forum plays a central role in how live calls are structured and facilitated.

Questions submitted in advance allow facilitators to:

  • Review context and reasoning
  • Identify common themes
  • Prepare discussion prompts and breakout room facilitation
  • Support more effective and focused learning during calls

Just as importantly, posting in the Forum allows other students to engage, reflect and contribute, often strengthening the question before it is discussed live.

Not every question needs to be brought to a live call.

You may also choose to start a Forum discussion and receive feedback directly within the Forum.

Both approaches are encouraged, and peer engagement is valuable in both cases.

Mandatory Use for Live Call Questions

If you intend to bring a question to a live call, it must first be posted in the Forum.

This process serves several important purposes:

  • It demonstrates preparation and engagement with the learning material
  • It shows that you have explored the curriculum and formed your own thinking
  • It allows facilitators to prepare discussion rather than respond reactively
  • It opens the opportunity for peer discussion prior to the call

Questions submitted at least 24 hours prior to a live call are considered eligible and may be prioritised.

If more than 6 questions are submitted for a single call:

  • Priority is given to the first six eligible submissions if time permits
  • Remaining questions may be carried over or answered within the Forum

Questions submitted after this window may still be addressed if time allows, but this is not guaranteed.

How to Ask a Strong Forum Question

To support meaningful discussion and useful guidance, Forum questions must be clear, specific and outcome-focused. The following structure is encouraged to support clear thinking and useful feedback across all types of questions, including; case discussions, concept clarification, food or supplement considerations and practical application.

A strong question includes:

One Clear Question

Be specific about what you are seeking support with.

Avoid broad requests such as “Can you review my whole case?” or “Can you check if I have missed anything?”

One Clear Outcome

State what you are hoping to gain from the response.

For example:

  • Help choosing a first priority based on your findings
  • Help deciding between two options
  • Help identifying what you may be missing in a specific area
  • Help simplifying a plan based on a specific client
  • Help deciding what to address now versus later
  • Help identifying realistic coaching or adherence strategies
  • Help understanding a specific condition or physical symptom

Clear outcomes allow facilitators and peers to respond more effectively.

Brief Context

Only include information that directly affects the decision.

This may relate to:

  • A client, personal, friend or family members scenario
  • A specific symptom, condition or life context
  • Coaching, adherence or capacity barriers
  • Food foundations or key considerations for a condition
  • Supplement reactions and tolerance
Your Current Thinking

Share how you are currently approaching the situation.

This may include:

  • What you believe is happening and why
  • How you are sequencing or prioritising
  • Where you feel uncertain
  • What you are considering as a next step
Resources Already Used

List any relevant modules, tools or Forum posts you have already reviewed.

Your Intention

Indicate whether:

  • You are seeking discussion and feedback within the Forum, or
  • You intend to bring the question to a live call

Even when a question is marked for a live call, peer discussion in the Forum is encouraged.

This structure is not about restricting questions. It supports practitioner-style reasoning and collaborative learning rather than outsourcing thinking.

A Note on Time and Getting the Most Helpful Response

To maximise the number of students supported, facilitators typically have around 10 to 15 minutes per question in a live call setting.

To help you get the most value, ask yourself:

What do I most need in order to move forward within the next 15 minutes?

This usually means choosing one:

  • The first priority
  • The next step
  • The most important consideration
  • The simplest adjustment
  • The best option between two choices
  • A practical coaching or adherence strategy
  • The most relevant food foundations for a condition
  • Key considerations for a specific condition or life stage
  • The best module to explore next

Questions that clearly state the decision and outcome are easier to answer well and lead to better discussion.

Examples of Strong Forum Questions

Students use the Forum in many different ways, to bring questions to live calls, or simply to create discussion or receive feedback on thinking. Questions do not need to be highly technical to belong here. They do need to be clear in intent and outcome, relevant and grounded in learning.

Examples include:

  • “Based on the Priority Order of Dysfunction, what would you prioritise first here and why?”
  • “I am unsure whether nutrition or lifestyle should come first for this client. Which would you choose and what would and how might I frame this reasoning?”
  • “This is my current thinking on this case. Can anyone help me identify what I may be overlooking in this area?”
  • “How would you approach adherence when the client understands the plan, but struggles to follow through?”
  • “What are 2 to 3 coaching strategies that build momentum without overwhelming the client?”
  • “What are the key food foundations you would start with here before layering anything more specific?”
  • “What are the key considerations I should keep in mind for this condition before choosing interventions?”
  • “How would you interpret this marker when paired with these symptoms and what would you monitor rather than act on?”
  • “Which module or tool would best support this decision or understanding?”
  • “Has anyone worked with a client experiencing this symptom before, where should I start?”
  • “I’m noticing this response repeatedly with clients. What is the best way to address this or where can I find more information?”
  • “Is this a common presentation for this supplement, or something you would consider unusual?”
  • “Can someone help me understand the relevance of this marker in regards to this client with [health challenge], is it a high priority right now?”
  • “Is this marker something you would prioritise, refer out or monitor over time?”
  • “What foods should I limit for my client with [health challenge]?”
  • “Are there considerations I should be aware of when using this supplement for clients with [health challenge]?”
  • “How would you approach stress or sleep support for clients with [health challenge] when adherence is low?”
Sales Calls and Client Conversations
  • “During sales calls, I’m noticing hesitation when price is discussed. What is the most important thing I should focus on improving first in how I frame value?”
  • “A prospect says they need to think about it. What are 1–2 follow-up questions that help move the conversation forward without pressure?”
  • “How would you respond when a client says they want results but is worried about committing time?”
  • “What is the difference between a genuine objection and uncertainty, and how should I respond to each?”
  • “What should I prioritise improving first in my sales conversations: confidence, structure or language?”
Sell by Chat and Written Communication
  • “How do you decide when to continue a chat conversation versus invite someone to a call?”
  • “What is one adjustment that improves conversion in written responses without sounding scripted?”
  • “How much education is helpful in chat before it becomes overwhelming?”
Offer and Positioning
  • “I’m unsure whether my offer is too broad or too narrow. What is the first thing I should assess to decide?”
  • “How would you simplify an offer without reducing its value?”
  • “What signals to a client that a practitioner is confident and credible before outcomes are discussed?”
Marketing and Messaging
  • “What should I prioritise first when marketing with a small audience?”
  • “How do I speak about results without making guarantees?”
  • “What is a good place to start if marketing feels overwhelming?”
  • “How do you decide which platform to focus on rather than spreading attention across many?”
Confidence, Identity and Practitioner Mindset
  • “What usually holds practitioners back from closing even when the client is interested?”
  • “How do I build confidence in selling when I’m still early in my practitioner journey?”
  • “What is a realistic focus for business development in the first 6 to 12 months?”
  • “How do I communicate certainty while still being ethical and within scope?”
Learning and Prioritisation
  • “Which business skill should I become competent in first before worrying about advanced strategies?”
  • “How do I decide what business content to focus on now versus what can wait?”
  • “Which module or call would best support improving my sales conversations right now?”

Examples That May Be Redirected

Some questions may be redirected or asked to be refined, such as:

  • “Can you go over my whole case?”
  • “Here is everything, can you tell me what to do?”
  • “Can you check if I’m on the right track?” without a specific decision or outcome”
  • “Can you read my whole brochure to check if it’s on the right track”

If this happens, guidance will be provided to help you refine your question so you can get the most value from the Forum or a live call.

Forum Categories and Scope

Each Forum category has a defined purpose.

Please:

  • Post questions that clearly fit the topic area
  • Avoid cross-posting the same question across multiple categories
  • Use the Complex Cases category only when a case genuinely exceeds existing modules or involves multiple overlapping conditions

The Student Support Forum is managed by the Accounts Manager and Admin Team and should be used for:

  • Access issues
  • Platform navigation
  • Administrative questions

Blood Work Questions and Cases

Blood work questions may be asked at different levels.

You may ask about individual markers or learning concepts without completing full blood work requirements.

To bring a blood work case to a live call, the following are required:

  • Functional Blood Work Module completion
  • Blood Work Assessment passed
  • Blueprint completed
  • IOH blood work sheet used
  • Identifying details removed
  • A clear question and outcome stated
  • Your own hypothesis included

Blood work cases that do not meet these requirements will be guided back to the appropriate learning steps or removed.

Peer Engagement and Collaboration

Peer engagement is a core part of learning at the Institute of Health.

Students are encouraged to:

  • Read and engage with other questions
  • Contribute ideas or alternative perspectives
  • Ask respectful clarifying questions
  • Participate in discussions even when a question is intended for a live call

Learning is strengthened through shared reasoning and multiple perspectives.

Community Standards

The Forum is a professional, facilitator-led learning environment.

All members are expected to:

  • Communicate respectfully
  • Remain non-judgemental
  • Stay within educational scope
  • Engage constructively

Posts that do not align with Forum standards may be removed with guidance provided.

Moderation and Response Expectations

Forums are moderated on business days

Facilitators may:

  • Respond directly in the Forum
  • Ask clarifying questions
  • Offer brief explanations or examples
  • Direct students to curriculum resources
  • Select questions for live call discussion

Response times may vary.

Posting in the Forum does not guarantee a live call response if requirements are not met.

Using the Forum Well

When used well, the Forum becomes one of the most valuable parts of your learning experience in the Institute Of Health.

It gives you space to collaborate, reflect and work through ideas as they form, while learning from the perspectives of others, as we believe health requires a multimodality approach.

It supports confidence not by providing answers alone, but by helping you trust your thinking, engage in discussion and apply concepts more clearly in real-world contexts.

Approached with curiosity and openness, the Forum becomes a place where learning feels collaborative, supportive and progressive, and where growth happens through shared understanding rather than perfection.
